Chapter 7

L’oriel

I was bouncing around in Troy’s buttery soft leather seat of his private plane when the pilot announced that we’d arrived in the Bahamas–the freaking Bahamas. I was fighting my urge to exit the plane before it landed. It was taking forever for the wheels to hit the tarmac. Troy sat staring at me, obviously pleased at my excitement. I had tried to get information about where he was taking me the entire flight, and he gave nothing away. I’d even attempted to make myself a member of the mile-high club. He turned me down, saying he had plans on having me where he was taking me. Neither the pilot nor the flight attendant would reveal where we were going.

The plane finally landed at Grand Bahama International Airport. As soon as the pilot announced we could take off our seat belts, I was out of my seat and on Troy’s lap. I couldn’t downplay my excitement. I’m a poor girl from Detroit; stuff like this doesn’t happen to me. Girls from where I’m from don’t meet nice guys that take them on exotic trips. I’d never even had a birthday party, and here I was whisked away to a tropical paradise for my birthday. I didn’t know how I’d be able to ever return the favor, but I was extremely humbled by being able to take the trip, and on a private aircraft no less.

I’d never seen a real palm tree. I was restraining myself from acting out, because I’d never been anywhere besides Detroit. I didn’t want Troy to feel like he’d really just plucked me out the hood. A sedan was parked at the curb once we walked through the airport. Troy greeted the driver and held the door open for me. I was in awe as we rode along Airport Road to Queen’s Highway. It was so lush and green, and oh my God, the palm trees. I looked over my shoulder at Troy, who I’d finally realized was still there. I wanted to stick my head out the window. However, I resisted. Troy seemed really pleased at my excitement. I was hoping I wasn’t making a fool of myself. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more beautiful. I thought the mountains and the trees with new blossoms of spring on my way to Atlanta were beautiful, but this was breathtaking.

We pulled in front of a beach resort, and I was absolutely astounded. My mouth hung open as Troy and the driver gathered our luggage moved around me. I was actually facing the North Atlantic Ocean. The skies and the ocean were so cerulean; it was almost as if someone had drawn a picture. I could smell the salt from the ocean. I was ready to kick my sandals off and run towards the beach. Instead, I fumbled with my purse and pulled my phone out to snap a picture. I remained awestruck until I felt Troy wrap his arm around my waist.

“Come on baby, let’s put our things away and then we can do whatever you want.
